I know this is a really basic question, and you may call me a noob for asking, but I couldn't find any threads that definitively answered this question. So here it is:

What are the exact differences between the characters in CTR? I've never found a definitive list of all the differences. Bandipedia has a list of characters, and it includes their stats. I'm a new member, and apparently new members cannot post external links for 7 days, so I'll just explain it: The stats for the original 8 characters (Crash, Cortex, Coco, N. Gin, Tiny, Dingodile, Polar, and Pura) match up with the stats that the Character Select screen for Adventure mode shows. As for the unlockable characters, it shows that most of them (with the exceptions of Fake Crash and NTSC Penta Penguin) are basically improved versions of the original 8 with one extra point in each stat (though nothing exceeds the maximum of 5 points). Komodo Joe is basically Crash/Cortex but with one extra point in each stat, Papu Papu is an improved version of Tiny/Dingodile, Ripper Roo is an improved version of Polar/Pura, and Pinstripe is an improved version of Coco/N. Gin. Also, N. Tropy is an even more improved version of Tiny/Dingodile: he has 2 more points in each stat. But there is nothing in the game that verifies any of this. I've done a little testing myself. To test acceleration, I did 2 player VS. mode, went to Cortex Castle, and tried to start both racers at the same time to see who drove off the track first. From what I can tell, Papu Papu has the same acceleration as Tiny, and Ripper Roo has the same acceleration as Polar. I'm willing to guess that the rest of their stats are identical, too. Same goes for Komodo Joe with Crash and Pinstripe with Coco, but I haven't tested that.

I've read over the professional guide that LinkerZ posted, but even those results seem a little dubious (no offense). Is there anyone who has a conclusive list of character differences?

Also, another small question: do any of the stats affect boosting speed? When I'm using Coco, I feel like my boosts are a little faster than other characters. But maybe I'm crazy.

It's really simple: Bosses is just like swap color of original character, any difference between them.
The only special character of the game is Penta in PAL version (He is perfect in all 3 performances)



Specialist of Speed:
- Tiny
- Dingo
- Papu Papu
- Tropy

Specialist of acceleration:
- N.Gin
- Coco
- Pinstripe

Specialist of Handling:
- Polar
- Pura
- Ripper Roo
- Penta (Only on NTSC version)

Perfect stat:
- Penta (Only on PAL version)

Thanks! That's what I thought. I wonder where Bandipedia got their incorrect information...

Anyways, as for my other question, is it true that acceleration affects the gained speed you get from mini-turbos? As I said, I felt like my boosts from drifting were a little faster when I was Coco, but perhaps I am mistaken.

I think it doesn't affect the speed but the time you spend getting top speed. If you get a turbo at the beginning of the race and you don't stop, the acceleration won't matter anymore.

LinkZer's guide is overall ok, but it has some outdated parts.
He should update his guide I think its time already! Mad
